  • Lol remember when they software locked LGA1511 to prevent 8th and 9th gen CPUs from working on existing 6th/7th gen motherboards, and then the modding community bypassed it with some BIOS mods and Teflon tape.

This whole time they could’ve actually been making old computers better than they are and make it so the consumer didn’t have to spend a fuck load on upgrades but waited till a chip shortage to do it…

This isn’t anything new in the component industry. Nvidia is even more guilty of this with their RTX ray tracing scam which now looks comically small next to their subsequent AI bubble.

I’ve personally preferred AMD for this reason because they actually thought ahead of Intel on several occasions like x64, multicore processors, more efficient laptop CPU power consumption, actually funding next gen hardware specs, etc.

In my eyes, the last time Intel was even “on top” of AMD was the skylake overclock era where single thread performance was still sought after heavily.

Hilariously though my servers are all Intel xeons because of their sheer production volume making used parts much cheaper than AMD.

  • I keep posting that the zfold and zflip 8 is gonna be the last good foldable generation from Samsung because this cycle crap is what happens every time Apple finally catches up:

    1. Small OEM makes some sick hardware advancement
    2. Samsung applies cool hardware into a secondary product
    3. Everyone is happy and enjoying product
    4. Several years pass
    5. POS Apple finally catches up with the hardware standard and releases their next iphone for a morbillion dollar price tag
    6. A shifu ton of Apple users buy it as usual
    7. Samsung marketing makes fun of Apple for two months
    8. Samsung execs see all the Apple money and then copy Apple’s POS hardware spec for the next generation of their product
    9. Repeat

I still remember when Galaxy was the flagship of Android and made the iphone look like a joke Chinese knockoff in comparison and now it’s just an iphone clone with equally crappy software to match.

Apple, Apple slop buyers, Samsung, and especially Google can all go screw themselves.

  • I wish these braindead news outlets would stop doing free marketing for anthropic or openai.

This shit is as bad as everyone suddenly acting like foldable phones are relevant just because shitfuck apple decided to finally enter the market with their $2k phone made of recycled sewage.

People were doing all this stuff back when GPT-3 dropped and literally every model on HF has hundreds of ablated/uncensored versions that makes whatever limitations anthropic and openai impose completely irrelevant.

Even if some adversary wanted a high quality output for nefarious purposes, they’d just download uncensored deepseek and run it on their expensive hardware they can already afford.

Why is every god damn article pretending the past 3 years never happend?

  • Honestly I’d be way more concerned about Iran getting pushed into finally making their nuke so they can lob it back and start WWIII; or Israel seeing it as a green light to just start nuking whoever they please.

Iran isn’t fissile material-less, they could probably form a completely functional bomb with some assistance from NK and China (or next door Pakistan if they suddenly decide to abandon uncle sam). It might require some hefty price, but they could probably trade away oil access rights and have their material covertly sent to NK for final processing into a bomb.

Even if China doesn’t want to get involved, they could just as easily make some quick dirty bombs, attach it to their ballistic missiles, and perma scar a significant portion of the earth with radiation poisoning.

The general American public response is largely irrelevant because it’s already too late to matter. Even if they ripped out the entirety of DC and formed a completely new government, there’s no stopping the consequences of such an action.

  • This is technically not new, several airports already have their own version that doesn’t require tsa pre or a 3 day advance notice.

AFAIK DTW was the first, and they now allow you to print an access pass right at the terminal entrance so you can go through security as a non passenger.

Also to the comments complaining about long lines and traffic, that just means your airport sucks lol. ATL and ORD have some of the most horrendous pedestrian design and understaffed sections in the world. They aren’t 3 hour line busy because of the sheer volume, they just already sucked total garbage at handling that volume.

  • About the only instance of massive piracy I’ve seen that was significantly driven by cost factor was, rather ironically, the Nintendo DS flashcart era.

And even then, you can easily make the argument that the reason it was so popular was because of the ability to store games digitally on a single card, which was superior service than buying each game separately.

Had Nintendo adopted digital game releases as standard, piracy likely would have fallen quite a bit.

Never seen anything else come even close, everything else was always because it was a higher quality service or product from the pirate.
