  • Get scissor cut black plastic sheet, something that’s ridgid, and silicone fishtank adhesive.

Cut the plastic to match the shape of the glass sections that face your window. Clean the glass with alcohol, then apply a thin layer of silicone to the plastic piece and press it to the glass. Use a finger to wipe any excess and ooze into a tight seam.

So long as it doesn’t hit sweltering hot, freezing cold, or rainy for the next 24hrs it takes to cure, that plastic isn’t comming off without a putty knife and effort (it will come off fine without harming it, but not on its own)

If you want to increase the chance that no one will do anything about it, do the same to every lamp on your block. Nothing hides vandalism like uniformity.

  • 5 years ago, I’d be out every night systematically removing flock cameras. I have the skills, the tools, and the experience avoiding getting caught. Instead I told myself these things weren’t going to happen and these skills will ever bring me joy. So I cleaned up, got married, finally went to college. I have a career I’m dedicated to and it isn’t even dubiously legal.

I see why we aren’t out burning things in the streets now. I can’t drive 5 over without worrying that a traffic stop will land my wife in alligator Auschwitz for being the wrong color. I can finally afford to buy food for my kid and it’s subject to the whim of people who want my kind dead. I don’t care about everyone else enough to risk what little I actually have.

  • I’ve done the measures on mine and I’m confident that I have the space needed.

For the vents I’ve actually switched to 45° baffet vents instead of holes, they’ll be more on theme for the build and allow a lot more air with less cutting.

Vibration is a great point that I didn’t consider, I have some cork sheets that I can cut to match the fan frame and that should do wonders. I may even add some acoustic foam to the other side just to quite down the metals.

  • My spouse and I both have mid century 5 drawer tanker desks. I’m sitting at it to type this.

Attached to my monitor stand is the modified remains of an 80’s gravity lamp. The base broke but the springs are good and it makes a great spotlight.

Our server and tv are built into the remains of an early 80’s Zenith console TV. The screen was dead so we cut out space behind the decorative front pannel for a 32in flat screen and cut down the tower to work as scaffolding for the computer parts. Tossed a sound bar in and now it booms like a theater. You don’t even notice the 2in of screen that’s losts on the ends.

Our stove is a Montgomery Ward from the late 70s. It’s an absolute marvel to use. The clock is broken so I’m planning to dismantle that area to put controls for a vent fan I want to install in the attached shelf.

Our fridge is modern but the second I find myself a '64 GE Americana I’m gutting it to modetnize that masterpiece. Unless I find the tools for metal fab first…

My Samsung microwave is from the mid 70’s. It doesn’t have a turn table but it heats food better than any modern box and has a fraction of the radio leak that my Walmart one had.
