Why do they still have subscribers?
Mostly kids or teens who are unsupervised and so horribly impressionable. Moreso if a percentage of those bastards’ viewership also come from developing countries whose young populations have access to smartphones and cheap internet but are lacking credible role models, and so instead Youtube becomes the substitute. As these influencers discover that audience base, they do tend to pander to those markets, like enticing them with freebies as their viewership count skyrockets.
Their fans are dumb children or dumb adults. They simply do not care so long as they are entertained.
I once saw someone defend Chris Brown by saying if you got rid of all the criminals in the entertainment industry, they’re be no entertainment left.
That being said, I know about Beast and Paul, but what did ksi do?
Because the algorithm loves them.
These guys don’t pop into children’s feeds on accident.
separate the art and the artist
Because most children don’t know this and have unsupervised internet access
My understanding is… Being popular (a.k.a. having lots of subscribers) requires someone to be entertaining and be good at self-promotion. Being entertaining is independent from being a good person. For the latter, I once saw a streamer say something along the lines that anyone who is willing to do that level of self-promotion likely self-selects for at least some level of narcissistic traits
… and a lot of their subscribers are relatively young and likely don’t care, probably
Some don’t know, some don’t care, some agree with their actions/opinions.
While it’s important every individual develop and maintain a moral framework, individuals rarely if ever use morality as the sole basis for day to day decisions/actions.
The world just doesn’t operate on a solely moral basis. Some don’t consider the morality of mundane acts, some find the morality of a thing excusable/justifiable when considered, and some come to find their morals agree.
Who are they? Not very popular I presume, first time hearing.
Because there are a lot… A LOT of stupid/ignorant people in the world.
I have to interact every now and then with someone who is a MrBeast stan. He’s in his 20s or 30s and has a kid of his own. He’s also a fan of xxtentacion and even when he was confronted with facts about MrBeast being a scammer and abuser, and xxtentacion beating his pregnant girlfriend, he said it was just haters making up stories. I literally linked him an NBC article about whatever current controversial shit MrBeast was up to at the time, and he said that “y’know you really shouldn’t trust .com domains.”
Dude is a lost cause and he regularly tries to recruit others to watch MrBeast or buy his products.
I don’t disagree with Mr Beast being a scammer and abuser, and I also don’t disagree with a domain not being untrustworthy just because it’s a .com domain.
That being said, I should point out that the news/media isn’t exactly reliable. NBC is no exception. Even if the article is true (which it most likely is), I wouldn’t blame someone for not trusting NBC.
I get it that the media is captured by billionaires but my point is that I don’t think that NBC, a network that has been around for 100 years, would put their reputation on the line to publish lies about a random wealthy YouTuber, who likely has lawyers on retainer that could sue for libel if they really were making stuff up.
“i DuNnO, mAn. TrUmP sUeS pEoPlE a LoT, sO tHeY mUsT bE fAkE111!!1!!1!”
Why is facebook still a thing? Or Xitter?
I’ve never bothered reading or watching anything about them, I don’t know that they’re horrible because I don’t pay attention to such drivel… I don’t even know what they all look like. I’ve heard that they’re horrible here and there, so what? Everyone is always horrible somewhere, no matter who
I watch youtube every day… just absolutely nothing about them. I’m sure there are millions of people that are also ambivalent about such news and just watch what they want to
The same reason Chris Brown still has female fans. They’re rich and famous.
It’s also not really an accident either. Their popularity is not fully natural.
All these companies, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, tiktok, reddit, etc are not apolitical entities, they gain by pushing right-wing content to certain demographics of vulnerable users.
I’ve noticed that personally I can’t use algorithmic media like this because it will shove that content like that down my throat and I refuse. But not everyone has that self-awareness and introspection. And some of the content is really subtle, not enough to be noticable at first.
Because sheeple are horrible
