Can definitely agree with the seeing people every month or maybe two. I used to have weekly hangouts and started to feel really annoyed. Maybe I just need new friends who are just closer to my energy level. I do worry that having kids will make me more reclusive, though. Did you notice a shift to spending more time alone after having kids?

The scary part is realizing you don’t actually miss being super social. Days end so quickly after work, who has time for anything more?

Technology@lemmy.world•Retailers are pulling back from self-checkout after years of theft, errors, and questionable time savingsEnglish
10·5 days agoIm surprised how many people here hate self checkout. I am much faster at scanning and bagging my own items than most cashiers. I almost never get errors, and if I do I know what to do to clear them typically. I always look at self check first, and then human lines second. Plus, none if that “how’s your day? Want to apply for a store credit card?” talk from a bored looking cashier.
It’s wild to me that it feels like we’ve thrown in the towel on creating conditions good for human health mentally. Im not always the most chipper of people, but I thought it was wild that Ive had multiple coworkers casually and openly discuss how hard adjusting to ssri medication has been for them.
Life sucks? Stressed? Hate your life and or job? Take a pill…
Im not discounting that the medication actually helps a lot of individuals. I just hate that it has become the blanket remedy to unhappy mental states. Even eating healthy, positive social relationships, and exercising gets written off quickly.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why weren't telephone lines and electrical lines not buried under ground? Which would have saved a bunch of money from upkeep and accidents?
1·30 days agoI was always taught maintenance wise that the insulation around underground cabling (which is necessary since earth is a great conductor) degrades and leads to a shorter maintanable life for the cables than above ground ones. I could be wrong, though.

12·1 month agoUnder ground cabling has a shorter lifespan than above ground and are harder to access due to limited access points for maintenance. They are also prone to things like flooding and tree roots. Still look a heck of a lot better than above ground, though.

Renting a cabin to all unwind together is awesome. I moved a lot growing up, so I have 3 friends from high school I still talk to, and 2 of them are even more reclusive than I am unfortunately. None live locally. Im not here to complain, though. I get out at least once per week, which is something. I just find myself enjoying life less and less with age, it seems. I guess Im the only one who can fix that, though.
