OpenAI said it’s ending its contract with Cursor, a coding startup recently acquired by SpaceX, because it doesn’t trust an Elon Musk-owned company to comply with its terms of service.
The company said in a statement published on Friday night that it plans to shut off Cursor’s access to OpenAI models on November 12.
OpenAI did not accuse Cursor of violating any terms. It instead pointed to past conduct by another Musk-owned company, Twitter, which Musk bought in 2022 and merged with SpaceX earlier in February.
Yesss eat each other
Haha I had a cursor rep reach out to me last week with a pitch around their bright future now they’re part of SpaceX.
I replied and told him that in no uncertain terms would I do business with any business that directly benefits a known fascist like Elon Musk.
I also told them no thanks because of the association
I got hit up by a recruiter this week about a job with some startup trying to build data centers in the ocean and Peter theil is a major investor. I’m not looking for a job but going to tell them they have a dumb idea funded by an asshole sounds like a good time.
Really really don’t say this often but Sam Altman has a point here.
The infighting and imminent downfall of AI clapping companies is so satisfying to watch
Oh man he bought Cursor I missed that. Boo.
Yes shortly after the IPO, and I think they spend 80% of the money they got from the IPO buying Cursor.
60 billion in stock, if I recall correctly. I don’t believe they got any cash
So they too got screwed. 🤡
They paid most of that with fake money tied to SpaceX stocks. Still a golden parachute to the founders
They got an insane amount of money for a VSCode fork with AI integrations baked in
I used it for a bit because it was cheaper than directly buying a Claude subscription from Anthropic. Canceled the moment SpaceX bought it
What’s a good alternative to cursor?
VSCode with your preferred AI integrations. Buy the monthly subscription directly from OpenAI or Anthropic
That’s all Cursor is anyway. VSCode + integrations + subscription bundled together
