Members of the Cornell University Faculty Senate have introduced a resolution for a vote of no confidence against the university administration for its handling of the 2024 alleged gang rape on campus, as calls for reform and accountability reverberate with hundreds of protesters gathering on campus.
The resolution was submitted to the university faculty committee Monday evening, according to Paul Ortiz, a professor of labor history at Cornell who is also a member of the Faculty Senate. The group will review the resolution and it will be put on the full Faculty Senate agenda for when the Senate meets on October 14, Ortiz said.
A vote of no confidence, meant to convey a group has lost faith in a leader or administration, would be a sign of serious dissatisfaction and put pressure on university leadership to take action. “The faculty have been approached by hundreds of students, alumni, staff who are demanding that we do something,” Ortiz told CNN.

Alleged?
Alleged: someone or maybe even a lot of someones claimed it happened.
The news essentially has to use that word until there is a conviction or it can be considered libelous. Even with a mountain of evidence, until there’s a ruling, the accusations are “alleged”.
Right but didn’t this happen back in like 2022 and the dudes were convicted and had to then write their essays?
I.e. I thought we were done with the trial part and there is no “alleged” about it. They raped that woman.
None of the 7 were charged with a crime, let alone convicted. You’re mistaking their university punishment with a criminal proceeding.
Well, I’ll be damned. That makes much more sense. I thought they were convicted and that was their joke of a punishment. Didn’t see that they just gave them a complete pass. Fuckers.
Thanks for the correction.
I feel for the victim, her own statements are why the DA didn’t seek charges as she stated she originally consented to sex with one of the fraternity guys as well as consented to take the ketamine she was under the influence of. How those facts somehow gives these guys a blank check to treat her like a sex atm is beyond my comprehension.
It’s NY law. Some States require that in cases of rape through intoxication, the intoxication must also be involuntary.
You know how if you go to a party and there is an open box of pizza on the counter? You’d just assume it was for sharing, right? Help yourself. Well, in NY and several other states, when a girl gets too intoxicated, her body becomes like an open box of pizza.
