At this point, why is California even in the US? Calexit, Pacifica, Cascadia, whatever you want to call it, now.
Because we fought a civil war over that sort of thing? States can’t just secede just because they feel like it. No president is going to also roll over and let that happen on their watch - many lives were lost to preserve the union and the only way that’s going to change is if many more lives get lost.
The way i see it, you either fight to stay in the US in the face of invasions, or you fight to leave the US. If the US is so willing to give LA and SD away, why can’t they just leave?
The US is not our current president, who should have literally been sentenced to death for sedition, that is saying this insane shit.
A lot of us, most of us actually, are not keen on this orange faced fucker nor the bullshit his administration has been doing. I truly believe the reason we haven’t seen more violence in the streets is that we still have hope these elections in November will bring things back to a semblance of normality, hopefully that’s true.
I fear it is not.
The only way to exit the USA as a state is revolutionary war and winning that war. for CA that would require all the military bases in CA to outnumber the rest of the country AND for all the personnel on those bases to side with and fight with CA or for some other military force to capture all those bases, than bases all over the US, at that point, winning the war would be totally destroying the US government and military, meaning CA would then become the ruling body of the USA, so the necessary methods won’t really meet the desired outcome, you can’t stop being a state, we fought a whole war about this, you can only exit with war, and winning means becoming the governing body of the US, so if CA really wants to leave, it’s gonna cost a lot of money and lives and it’s never going to work out the way you want it to.
I mean… anything in the constitution can be changed with enough political willpower. Peaceful legal secession from the USA is without precedent, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen in the future. However, it does seem unlikely in the immediate future.
The editing you’re talking about would effectively be a brand new constitution. That will require a revolution. those can be popular and relatively low casualty, but it’s not ever going to be bloodless, also CA wouldn’t solve anything by being a be country, I live in CA, like most Americans, and the problem isn’t being in the US as a state, the problem is a huge amount of compounding factors mostly related to corporatism and cultural problems both longstanding and new. leaving solves nothing and creates more problems.
